2024: Volume 5 : CAMPBIENT

This fifth iteration of CAMPBIENT took place on June 7-9, 2024 at Millersylvania State Park, Olympia, WA. The park offered a variety of natural environs–a limpid lake, fecund wetlands, old growth forest, as well as the remnants of a settler orchard. The built environment was inescapable and represented in the recording from train tracks to the reverberant stone structures on site.

These structures, as well as the park as a whole, were constructed by predominantly Black Civilian Conservation Corps workers in the 1930s. This history was recognized and celebrated in the second track of the composition, in a decidedly lyrical approach. These elements were recorded, combined, discussed, and realized to create a sonic record of the place and the many times of the place.
